People’s Portrait Project

Pop in during the Bloomsbury Festival for a free portrait drawn by professional artists. For five or so minutes you will be a vital part of the artists’ creative process, and will be able to keep the end result. The artists will have the opportunity to engage with the public and get some practice working quickly from real life.

Also Known as the PPP, the People’s Portrait Project first came to life in 2011, when artist Geoff Harrison created the project for The Bloomsbury Festival. The format is simple, artists sit in one line and participants (members of the public) sit opposite. The artists have roughly 5 minutes to draw the person opposite them, and after that the portrait can either be taken away, or put on our artists wall. In return, we ask that a small donation be made to our chosen charity.

The project aims to provide important experience for new artists, a rare opportunity for established artists to engage with multiple ‘subjects’. It also provides those whose portraits are drawn to be part of the process, and walk away with a free portrait!
